Bollywood icon Kajol recently opened up about her journey in the film industry, sharing how her perspective has evolved over more than 30 years in cinema. In a conversation with The Hollywood Reporter India, she reflected on the challenges, relationships, and passion that have sustained her career.
🎬 Evolving Perspective in Bollywood
Kajol admits that time has softened her outlook.
“Everyone I’ve worked with, even those I didn’t particularly like at the time, I find myself appreciating now,” she laughs.
Her on-screen presence remains strong, with recent projects including The Trial Season 2 and Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, a talk show venture. She is also preparing for the action thriller Maharagni: Queen of Queens, co-starring Prabhu Deva.
💫 Lessons in Patience and Forgiveness
Asked about taking things seriously, Kajol shares:
“No, never. I was far less forgiving earlier, but over time, I’ve learned patience and perspective.”
Her experience reflects a mature understanding of the industry, emphasizing that navigating Bollywood requires resilience and adaptability.
🤝 Cherishing Lasting Relationships
Kajol values relationships over projects. Looking back at her career, she says:
“I was fortunate. Whatever work I did, it was always about the people. They made everything worthwhile.”
She highlights enduring bonds with filmmakers and co-stars. Even years after films like Baazigar, directors Abbas-Mastan continue to stay in touch, sharing birthdays and personal milestones.
🌟 A Legacy Shaping Passion
Growing up in a film-centric family, Kajol explains that Bollywood never felt extraordinary:
“My grandfather, parents, aunt, and grandmother were all part of it. It felt normal.”
This background, she says, instilled an understanding of the business from an early age. She adds with a smile:
“You only join this industry if you have a bit of madness. A spark of passion and being slightly starstruck helps you forgive its flaws and keep moving forward.”
Kajol’s reflections highlight the importance of passion, patience, and personal connections in sustaining a long and successful career in Bollywood.
