Union Minister for Road, Transport, and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, is touring the Andaman and Nicobar Islands to assess various national highway projects. In Port Blair, he held discussions with Lieutenant Governor Admiral (Retd) D K Joshi and reviewed ongoing highway initiatives in the region.
During his visit, Gadkari engaged with BJP workers to address development challenges in the archipelago, including land conversion, medical facilities, higher education, and road infrastructure.
He also visited Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island (formerly Ross Island), a historical site that once served as the British administrative base. Gadkari explored landmarks such as the World War II-era Japanese bunker, Smritika Museum, and other historical monuments. Officials briefed him on the planned national memorial dedicated to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, emphasizing its significance.
At the Cellular Jail National Memorial in Port Blair, Gadkari paid tribute to India’s freedom fighters by visiting the Martyrs’ Column and the Swatantraya Jyot, a memorial honoring the sacrifices made during the freedom struggle.
Gadkari’s visit highlights his dedication to improving infrastructure and honoring the historical legacy of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands.
