By In a shocking development, senior Haryana IPS officer Y Puran Kumar, serving as Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), was found dead at his official residence in Sector 11, Chandigarh, on Tuesday. Police sources believe he died by suicide, but the suicide note is missing, raising serious questions.
Incident at Government Quarters in Chandigarh
According to early reports, Kumar allegedly shot himself inside his government accommodation. The Chandigarh Police reached the spot shortly after receiving the alert. The area has been sealed off, and the weapon used in the incident has been recovered.
Forensic teams are conducting a detailed examination at the scene to collect evidence. A senior police officer confirmed,
“A formal inquiry has been launched. We are recording statements from family members and staff. The exact reason will be determined after a thorough investigation.”
Recent Transfer to Sunaria Jail
Just days before the incident, on September 29, Y Puran Kumar was transferred to Sunaria Jail in Rohtak, a high-security facility known for housing Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh, who is currently serving prison sentences for sexual assault and other serious offences.
Sources say authorities are also examining if recent professional changes or personal issues played a role in the tragedy.
Family and Official Response
Kumar’s wife, Amneet P Kumar, a senior IAS officer, is currently in Japan as part of an official delegation led by Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini.
News of Kumar’s sudden death has sent shockwaves through the police and administrative circles. Senior officials from the Haryana Police and Chandigarh Administration rushed to his residence after the news broke.
No Suicide Note Recovered Yet
Police have confirmed that no suicide note has been recovered from the location so far. Kumar’s body has been sent for post-mortem, and a detailed medical report is awaited.
