Water Leakage in Taj Mahal’s Main Dome Due to Heavy Rain, ASI Confirms No Damage

The main dome of the Taj Mahal in Agra experienced water leakage after three days of continuous rain. This caused waterlogging in one of the gardens on the monument’s premises, drawing attention from tourists and locals alike.

A video showing the rainwater-submerged garden on the Taj Mahal premises went viral on Thursday, catching the attention of visitors. Tourists who witnessed the waterlogged area captured videos, which quickly spread across social media platforms.


ASI Confirms No Damage to the Monument

A senior official from the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), Agra Circle, assured that while there was water leakage due to seepage in the main dome, the Taj Mahal suffered no significant damage.

Rajkumar Patel, Superintending Chief of ASI, stated, “Yes, we have witnessed the leakage in the main dome of the Taj Mahal. After checking with a drone camera, we confirmed that there was no damage to the structure.”


Importance of Preservation for Agra’s Tourism Industry

Local residents and tour guides expressed concerns about the monument’s preservation. Monika Sharma, a government-approved tour guide, highlighted the importance of taking care of the Taj Mahal, as it serves as a vital source of income for many working in the tourism industry.

She said, “Proper care should be taken of the monument because for the tourism industry people, it is the only hope.”


Citywide Waterlogging Due to Continuous Rainfall

Agra has been experiencing persistent rainfall, leading to waterlogging in various parts of the city. Several major highways, local crops, and upscale residential areas have been affected, causing disruptions in the daily lives of residents.
